Instructions for use

The bamboo surface must be clean, dry and free of grease. Let the bamboo boards dry for at least 24 hours, so that the moisture content of the bamboo is below 17%. Remove any rough bamboo fibres with grit 120 sandpaper. Only treat the bamboo surface in dry weather and at a minimum temperature of 13°C. Avoid high temperatures. Open the tin and stir the oil carefully before use. Apply an even, thin coat of oil with a brush, treating the end grain first. The oil has a dark colour. Treat the whole surface in one go and spread the oil out thoroughly. Remove the excess oil with a clean cloth within 5 minutes at most. Pay particular attention to joints and grooves, where the oil tends to sit more thickly. It takes 24 to 48 hours for the oil to cure fully; the exact time depends on the weather conditions and the temperature. During this period the bamboo surface must not be exposed to water (rain). Once the bamboo is dry, it can be buffed for an extra wear-resistant surface. This can be done with a hand pad or a single-disc machine. Store the Bamboo Shield Thermo in a dark, dry place and out of reach of children. To protect your bamboo products against ageing for the long term, treat them with Bamboo Shield Thermo every year.
