Instructions for use
The bamboo substrate must be sanded, clean, dry and free of grease. Raised bamboo fibres can be prevented by wiping the bamboo panel with a damp cloth before applying the first coat. This method usually also removes the need for intermediate sanding before applying a second coat. Intermediate sanding with P120 sandpaper is not necessary for adhesion, but can give a smoother result. Do not thin the Bamboo Topcoat, as this can upset the precise balance of the ingredients. Do not use a foam roller (this can cause bubbles); instead use a good quality mohair roller, felt roller or a long-haired brush to apply the lacquer. Only use tools with stainless steel or plastic parts. Clean tools thoroughly with water before the product dries on. Dried product can be dissolved with acetone if necessary. Spread the Bamboo Topcoat over the bamboo surface in even strips or sections and try to avoid differences in coat thickness. It is important to apply Bamboo Topcoat generously (first coat approx. 8 m² per litre, second coat 10-12 m² per litre). A full coat gives better wetting, flows out optimally and dries less quickly, so there is more time for rolling out and making wet-in-wet joins. Three coats give you a fully protective lacquer system. DRYING TIME Drying times apply at 20°C, 65 % humidity, the stated coverage and sufficient ventilation. A lower temperature and/or higher humidity can slow drying considerably. Always wait to apply the next coat until the previous coat is dry enough, to prevent defects. Do not cover a fresh coat with film, protective runners, carpets or other coverings for the first two weeks, and during that period clean it dry only, never with moisture. Bamboo Topcoat is dust-dry after approx. 15 minutes, tack-free after approx. 30 minutes, thumb-hard after approx. 1 hour and recoatable after approx. 16 hours. Do not use Bamboo Topcoat at temperatures below 10 °C, above 30 °C, and/or at a relative humidity above 85%. The temperature of the substrate must be at least 3 °C above the dew point. Screen off direct sunlight if necessary. Ensure sufficient ventilation to carry off water vapour during drying.
