Instructions for use
1. Make sure the bamboo substrate is sanded, clean, dry and free of grease. To prevent raised bamboo fibres, wipe the bamboo surface with a damp cloth before applying the first coat. This method usually also removes the need for intermediate sanding before applying a second coat. Intermediate sanding with P120 sandpaper is not necessary for adhesion, but can give a smoother result. 2. Do not thin the Bamboo Topcoat Caramel, as this can upset the precise balance of the ingredients. Do not use a foam roller (this can cause air bubbles); choose a high-quality mohair roller, felt roller or a long-haired brush to apply the lacquer instead. Only use tools with stainless steel or plastic parts. Clean the tools thoroughly with water before the product dries on them. 3. Spread the Bamboo Topcoat Caramel evenly over the bamboo surface in strips or sections and avoid differences in coat thickness. It is important to apply the Bamboo Topcoat Caramel generously (approx. 8 m² per litre for the first coat, 10-12 m² per litre for the second coat). A full coat gives better wetting and optimal flow and prevents rapid drying, leaving more time to roll the lacquer out evenly and make wet-in-wet joins. A fully protective lacquer system requires 3 coats. Drying time The drying times apply at a temperature of 20°C, a humidity of 65%, the stated coverage and sufficient ventilation. Lower temperatures and/or higher humidity can slow the drying time considerably. Always wait to apply the next coat until the previous coat is dry enough, to prevent defects. Do not cover a fresh coat with film, protective runners, carpets or other coverings for the first two weeks, and clean the surface dry only during this period. Bamboo Topcoat Caramel is dust-dry after about 15 minutes, tack-free after about 30 minutes, thumb-hard after about 1 hour and recoatable after about 16 hours. Do not use Bamboo Topcoat Caramel at temperatures below 10°C, above 30°C and/or at a relative humidity above 85%. Make sure the temperature of the substrate is at least 3°C above the dew point. Screen off direct sunlight where possible. Ensure sufficient ventilation to carry off water vapour during the drying process.
