Description
The South American Bamboo Pole Guadua is available in various diameters and lengths. Guadua bamboo is known as the strongest bamboo species in the world, with an exceptionally high load-bearing capacity and a tensile strength higher than that of mild steel. These unique mechanical properties make Guadua bamboo poles the undisputed number 1 among innovative architects and engineers specialising in green, sustainable construction.

WORKING WITH BAMBOO
Bamboo Poles can be joined in many different ways. Most techniques use rope and/or threaded rods. More advanced methods, such as the fish-mouth joint or the mortise-and-tenon joint, are equally possible.
You can of course also screw the Bamboo Pole in place. When you do, we always recommend pre-drilling to keep the risk of splitting to a minimum.
Bamboo is best cut with a Japanese saw. This special bamboo saw has small, sharp teeth that let you cut easily, quickly and precisely.
If you want to set Bamboo Poles into the ground, we advise applying Bamboo Ground Protector to the section that goes below ground. This special black coating preserves the bamboo and protects it against rot.
PROPERTIES
Every Bamboo Pole is unique. Colour differences and variations in the width of the Bamboo Pole are normal for this natural product. Vertical splitting is a natural characteristic of the material too. Splits are most likely to appear during the hot, dry months of the year. In damp, cold weather the splits are smaller than in dry, warm weather. Splitting has no direct effect on the lifespan.
A natural characteristic of Bamboo Poles is that they are thicker at the base than at the top. This taper depends on the bamboo species and the length of the Pole. The dimensions we state are always measured at the thickest end of the bamboo Pole.
Bamboo is a natural product, so bamboo poles are never 100% straight and colours may differ from one pole to another.

Care
Once you have installed the Bamboo Pole Guadua, you can apply our Bamboo Protector. This is a specially developed colourless/transparent stain that protects the bamboo against grime and discolouration. Outdoors, bamboo will grey and change colour, just like any natural material. We therefore advise treating bamboo once a year, preferably in spring, with our Bamboo Renovator, a specially developed stain that protects the bamboo and restores its colour. Bamboo Renovator is easy to apply to cleaned bamboo with a brush. Use thin coats and spread the Bamboo Renovator out well. To clean bamboo you can use our Bamboo Cleaner. For stubborn dirt or grime, bamboo can also be washed down with a pressure washer. Keep a suitable distance to avoid damage. An alternative maintenance product is also available: Bamboo Booster. Bamboo Booster is a natural oil that is easy to apply with Maintenance Wipes. This oil gives a beautiful glossy result. The oil protects and nourishes the bamboo, but does not slow down the discolouration process. Bamboo Booster can be applied several times a year for the best result. The oil simply cannot be combined with our Bamboo Protector and Bamboo Renovator stain.
