WORKING WITH BAMBOO
Bamboo sticks can be joined in many different ways. Most techniques use rope and/or threaded rods. More advanced methods, such as the fish-mouth joint or the mortise-and-tenon joint, are also an option.

Of course, you can also simply screw the bamboo stick in place. We always recommend pre-drilling to keep the risk of splitting to a minimum.

Bamboo is best cut with a Japanese saw. This special bamboo saw has small, sharp teeth that let you cut easily, quickly and precisely.

If you want to set bamboo sticks into the ground, we recommend applying Bamboo Ground Protector to the section that goes underground. This special black coating preserves the bamboo and protects it against rot.

PROPERTIES
Every bamboo pole is unique. Colour differences and variations in the width of the bamboo sticks are normal for this natural product. Vertical splitting is also a natural characteristic of the material. Vertical cracks are most likely to appear during the hot, dry months of the year. In damp, cold weather the cracks are smaller than in dry, warm weather. Splitting has no direct effect on the lifespan of the bamboo.

A natural characteristic of bamboo poles is that they are thicker at the base than at the top. How much a bamboo stick tapers depends on the bamboo species and the length of the stick. The dimensions we state are always measured at the thickest end of the bamboo stick.

Bamboo is a natural product, so bamboo poles are never 100% straight and colours may differ from one pole to the next.
